We have a strong focus on self advocacy; encouraging learners and residents to express opinion and make informed decisions. Community Voice is a group of young people who are encouraged by staff to take responsibility for issues, concerns and suggestions gathered through house meetings.
During house meetings young people discuss potential social activities – swimming, visiting the beach, going to the cinema, pub or coffee shop. They have the chance to air their views and discuss and solve any issues raised. There have been some fantastic additions to our community following ideas generated by learners and residents. After a discussion over waiting in the rain for the bus, young people wanted to build a bus shelter. Staff helped them to use their craft and woodwork skills to create an amazing shelter that now keeps everyone dry.
