Last September we were delighted to win a Natspec Award for our Student Voice work. Earlier this week Matt, our Head of Education, gave a Natspec webinar outlining our approach and how this has been adapted during lockdown.
Prior to the pandemic Student Voice was a timetabled slot where young people would meet and mix to have facilitated discussions about issues that mattered to them. Health and safety concerns, art competitions, bike safety, fundraising events – the interests of the group have always been varied!
Despite being unable to have large groups meeting in person, we’ve continued with having a timetabled slot so people can meet in their small bubbles and use Zoom to work together across the campus.
Each Tuesday afternoon continues to be Student Voice time where everyone works on the same weekly theme and shares their ideas. Our total communication approach means that we have found ways for everyone to join in, even learners who are non-verbal.
We were delighted to able to share our experiences, and hopefully pass on ideas to others in the sector.
