Skills celebration event in Cardiff

A moment of pride for Wales, as we gear up to host the UK Skills Finals.

On Thursday 9 October, Sue Hope-Bell, Acting Head of Education, Gareth, one of our tutors and Russ, a resident from Garnllwyd Barns went to a truly inspiring Skills Celebration Event ... what a day it was!

The event marked the incredible achievements of seven talented Welsh competitors who proudly represented the UK at Euro Skills 2025 in Herning, Denmark. Their stories were not only a celebration of skill but also a powerful testament to determination, passion, and personal growth.

This was more than just a celebration. It was also a moment of pride for Wales, as we gear up to host the UK Skills Finals for the very first time. The excitement was palpable, especially as the official Torch Relay – a symbolic journey uniting communities and competitors across the country – set off on its route around Wales.

Among the invited finalists was Russ, representing Horticulture. He soaked up every moment, connecting with fellow competitors and sharing stories and insights with quiet enthusiasm and curiosity.

One of the most moving parts of the event was hearing past competitors reflect on their journeys. They spoke candidly about the highs and lows of competing, the lessons learned through both success and struggle, and the lasting impact it has had on their lives.

It was clear that this experience had given them much more than vocational skills. Confidence, resilience, self-belief, and even bravery – all recurring themes in their stories. These weren't just competitions; they were transformative experiences.

As the Torch begins its journey around Wales, so too does the next chapter in the celebration of skill, dedication, and opportunity. For future finalists like Russell, the path ahead is bright – lit not just by the torch, but by the inspiration of those who’ve gone before.
