We took a group of our learners to Coleg Sir Gâr in Llanelli for a real life celebration event! Rather than one massive event, this year, the Skills Competition Wales awards ceremony was held through six satellite events taking place at Welsh providers across the country.
More than 800 young people competed across Wales over the past three months, with 89 gold, 87 silver and 91 bronze medals awarded in total. Although our competitors, Zak and Ellie, did not receive a medal, they really enjoyed attending the event and said they felt proud of themselves.
Having the opportunity to be part of the celebrations felt so special. It had been a long time since we’d been able to do something like this. It was great to see Zak and Ellie soaking up the atmosphere and celebrating the success of other local winners with some loud cheering and clapping!
Skills Competition Wales aims to inspire and up-skill future generations by developing young people’s vocational skills while celebrating their achievements.
Minister of Economy, Vaughan Gething stated: “Skills Competition Wales helps to equip young people with the experience and skills they need for personal and professional development. It offers individuals the opportunity to build up their confidence and employability skills while allowing employers to teach job-specific skills.”
It was a proud moment to see Zak and Ellie up on the stage collecting their certificates – fantastic to be able to celebrate their skills journey in style.
