Introducing Garnllwyd Barns

A new place to call home!

For almost fifty years our sector-leading services have been based in Carmarthenshire. Our main site, in Rhandirmwyn has been working with adults with learning disabilities since 1975. In 1981 we acquired Victoria House in nearby Llangadog. In recent years we’ve begun to explore how we could bring our approach and services to more people.

This year, 2023, sees the beginning of a new exciting chapter for Elidyr Communities Trust. Following the generous gift of a property situated in the Vale of Glamorgan, we’re kickstarting our plans for expansion, reaching more people in new areas.

Garnllwyd Barns is a fantastic building, set in several acres of countryside. The spacious property has a wonderful farmhouse kitchen, large lounge, gardens and tennis courts. With 5 bedrooms, in a few months it will become a wonderful place to live for up to five young adults.

In the past couple of years the house has been extensively modernised.

The building is surrounded by peaceful countryside.

We’ve got a skilled team of contractors working on site to complete the upgrades needed to meet the regulatory requirements. We estimate work will be finished in August, with a view to welcoming new occupants in the autumn.

Our strategic plan for the next few years outlines our ambition to develop services to reach more people in new ways. Garnllwyd Barns is our first tangible step towards this. You can learn more about our vision for the future by reading our strategic vision document.

This house offers a potential ‘next step’ towards independent living for residents currently on our Inclusive Lives provision. It also offers opportunity for the local authority to embrace new services being offered in the Vale of Glamorgan area.

In addition to getting the building work up and running and considering who the first residents might be, we’re also planning a staff recruitment drive to make sure we’ve got the best team in place.

We’ll be looking for a number of experienced support workers and managers to meet the needs of the young people placed at the provision. Job adverts will be published in the coming weeks but if you are interested in joining the team at Garnllwyd Barns, please do feel free to email your CV to Lisa Blofield or give her a call on 01550 760453.

So … exciting times ahead! We’ll be posting regular updates as the project progresses, so keep an eye out on our Twitter and Facebook pages for updates.
