On Saturday 4 July families from across the local area joined residents, staff and parents from Elidyr Communities Trust to take part in the charity’s first ever Colour Run held at Llandovery Rugby Club.
The event saw people completing 1K laps, running through clouds of colourful powder for 45 minutes. Everyone, young and old, fast and slow had a fantastic time at the event, which was officially started by Llandovery Mayor, Cllr Handel Davies and Elidyr, CEO James Slater.
Cllr Davies said,
“It was a pleasure to pull the starting colour cannon and get the race off to a start and I am impressed but not surprised, at the number of local people and businesses who have stepped up to support Elidyr Communities Trust.”
James Slater, CEO, Elidyr Communities Trust said,
“Our charity has been in Rhandirmwyn for over fifty years and this is our first big fundraising event in Llandovery. A huge thank you to everyone that has helped make it a success.”
One of the older competitors in the run was Marie Macey, who ran and personally raised £1,000 for the charity.
Marie said,
“The charity closest to my heart is Elidyr Communities Trust, who provide much care and a meaningful life to my youngest son David. David will always need 24/7 care. Elidyr provides a unique home for men and women with learning disabilities. David benefits from the safe, fulfilling and rewarding life that the organisation offers.”
Marie did a fantastic job fundraising and, on the day, ran incognito as ‘Gangster Granny’.
Everyone at Elidyr Communities Trust has a place funded by their local authority. This funding is not enough to give every learner and resident all the full range of incredible experiences the organisation wants to offer.
Events like the Colour Run are an exciting new way to bring people together to raise money and have fun.
