The final competition days are at Rhandirmwyn and Derwen College on Thursday and Friday. Before then we’ve got lots of training to do.

What is Skills Week?

We’ve been actively involved in taking part and hosting skills competitions for 4 years. Our learners have trained and competed, locally and nationally. They’ve developed skills onsite and out in the community and we’ve seen the huge boost in confidence and skill that the competitions inspire.

This week we’re putting our timetable on hold and running training sessions to prepare for the final competitions on Thursday and Friday.

Skills Week motivates individuals to push themselves to new heights and recognise excellence in their chosen field. In the past our learners have achieved bronze, silver and gold awards!

We’re pushing against the stereotype that ‘competing’ is too complex for our learners. We know that if competition briefs are suitably adapted, we can mitigate elements, such as time pressure, that our learners find tough.

The competitions that are being held on-site have all been designed by our staff, to ensure that each competition is fully accessible to all our learners.

What competitions are running?

These are the competitions our learners can enter. The week is full of training and then the finals for the first four competitions will be here in Rhandirmwyn on Thursday. The remainder will be at Derwen College on Friday. All our learners are taking part. We also have 2 Inclusive Lives residents taking part and some learners from other colleges.
