Coleg Elidyr and Derwen College are working together to offer inclusive skills competitions for learners to showcase their vocational and creative skills.
Students have the opportunity to demonstrate their talents across a range of sectors including hospitality, retail, performing arts, horticulture, health, carpentry and animal care as part of Coleg Elidyr's 2025 Skills competition event to be held in March, in partnership with Derwen College.
The competitions are open to learners aged 16-25, and who are working up to Level 1 in either mainstream or specialist schools or colleges.
TAKE PART AND SHOWCASE YOUR SKILLS.
Taking part in these competitions is a great way for learners to demonstrate their skills and readiness for work and independence. We are fortunate to have the facilities and industry relationships for our learners to practise and learn specific skills that they can use both in the work place and in their every day lives.
These events bring learners together from a variety of schools and colleges to compete in a professional environment that in itself brings new challenges for them to overcome.
WHAT COMPETITIONS ARE TAKING PLACE?
COLEG ELIDYR.
There are 2 days of competitions, the first is being held at Elidyr Communities Trust on Thursday 27th March 2025 and consists of the following;
Inclusive Skills: Woodwork
Individual competition for students aged 18-25 and working at Pre-entry, towards entry level 1
Inclusive Skills: Catering
Individual competition for students aged 18-25 and working at Pre-entry, towards entry level 1
Inclusive Skills: Animal Care.
Individual competition for students aged 18-25 and working at Pre-entry, towards entry level 1
Inclusive Skills: Life Skills - First Aid.
Individual competition for students aged 18-25 and working at Pre-entry, towards entry level 1
DERWEN COLLEGE.
The second day of competitions will be held at Derwen College on Friday 28th March and will consist of the following;
Horticulture; Eco Challenge, Quiz, identification task and bug hotel building.
Group - up to 3 students working at Entry level 2, Entry Level 3, or Entry1.
Hospitality; Table Laying.
Individual competition for students working at Entry Level 3 or below.
Housekeeping; Bed Making.
Paired competition for students working at Entry Level 3 or below.
Performing Arts; Open Performance.
Solo performance
Group performance
For students working at Entry Level 3 or below.
Retail; Visual Merchandising.
Group - up to 3 students working at Entry Level 3 or below.
KEY DATES
Application Deadline; Friday 14th February 2025
Successful entries informed by; Monday 24th February 2025
Live Final at Elidyr Communities Trust; Thursday 27th March 2025
Live Final at Derwn College; Friday 28th March 2025
