World Skills - Just one week to go.

Preparations are well underway.

On Wednesday we went to Cardiff & Vale College, City Centre Campus to do a preparation visit for the huge UK WorldSkills finals which are now just a week away.

This visit was arranged to get everyone familiar with the layout of the building, so they can feel comfortable next week. ‘Inclusive Skills’ (now often referred to as Foundation Skills competitions) are a collection of skill-based competitions, fully integrated into the WorldSkills UK programme, specifically designed and adapted for young people with disabilities and additional learning needs. The goal is to provide an accessible platform for these individuals to showcase their talents.

Val, one of our supporting tutors said

"Getting a feel for the college made a big difference to our learners and helped them get a sense of what to expect on competition day. Our visit has left them feeling confident, even more excited and incredibly proud to compete in Horticulture, Restaurant Services and Enterprise, representing Coleg and Team Wales".

We have five competitors who will be representing Team Wales in the competition, in three different categories;

Restaurant Skills

Horticulture

Enterprise

Our young people take competing seriously and have been training hard for many months preparing for each stage of the competition. Next week, prior to the finals, we will be holding training sessions onsite.

Whatever happens next Friday, the journey has been fantastic. We have witnessed phenomenal progress has and the competition has undoubtedly given everyone newfound confidence.

Stay posted next week for more developments!
